Back when there was 35mm film... real film, Hasselblad ruled the world with medium format film. Large, square negatives that were the envy of everyone.

Why didn't that format convert to digital?

A large, square sensor... a micro one that is 1/1 instead of 4/3.

It did. Hassy makes digital medium format cameras. Make Leica look affordable. Buy three or a small home, that sort of money.

Hasselblad, Mamiya, Phase One, Pentax, Leica, Leaf...

There's plenty of players involved with digital medium format.

well actually Pentax makes the 645D which it looks like a really accesible digital medium format tool for the money, at $8 k new and even $5k on ebay. makes it quite tempting. im seriously saving for one of those. you gotta love a 40 megapixel sensor!.

Hasselblad, Mamiya, Leica and Pentax all make medium format digital cameras. (Starting around $13,000 up to $45,000.)
