As a digital point and shooter I’ve always used Paintshop Pro for what little processing I’ve done to jpeg files. Now I’m planning to buy a 4/3 camera, probably the G1, and will need a program to work in RAW.

With no current commitment, I can go in any direction. Photoshop? Lightzone? Lightroom? other? Anything you can tell me about the merits or drawbacks of Camera RAW development programs will be greatly appreciated!

I'm pretty sure Panasonic G series ship with a version of Silkypix that is limited to that line of cameras. I own the Pro version 4 and it does a nice job in my opinion. It is somewhat different in approach and takes a bit of learning but is a starting point for you. Another free converter worth a look is Raw Therapee.

Personally I prefer and use Adobe Camera Raw in PS CS4.
