Spent a chunk of the first week of October around Death Valley. Very unsettled weather with the remnants of a hurricane passing through from the southeast along with a Pacific trough coming in the from the west. Original forecast was for a lot of rain everywhere but in the end what happened was absolutely wonderful patchy sun and clouds with the occasional localized thunderstorm.

Great shots. It's one of my favorite places. I see you visited the Racetrack Playa and took that hike up the high elevation, that in itself is a exciting road trip adventure.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Yes spent a few days around Racetrack area but actually didn't swing by Racetrack itself this time. Was mostly just to the east in Hidden Valley. Most of the higher elevation shots were from a hike I did to Lost Burro Peak and the associated ridge line. Started from Lost Burro Gap and then up and over to Lost Burro Mine and then return to my vehicle on the dirt roads connecting those two points. Peak register had only about 30-40 entries since 1996. Kind of a nasty hike, took way longer than I expected. Ubehebe Peak right above Racetrack is much easier as there is a good trail most of the way. Also tracked down a rock art site I've been meaning to find for a number of years on another day. Was a great trip!

Some very nice shots. I brings back some memories of a motorcycle trip I made in 2002. The valley has it's own beauty and it invites exploration. It was during the summer and the heat blew out a quarter sized hole in my rear tire. Your shots remind me of just how remote the place is, finding any kind of a towing company was brutal and expensive. The nearest town was far away and did not have the right size tire, but I had to put one on anyway.
