This was my first real test of my GX7. I bought the camera in the end of November, but I haven't really shot it for long periods of time. I haven't learned the camera inside and out yet, and before I left, I was pretty nervous that I may not get the shots that I want. For the trip, I brought the Samyang fisheye, The Oly 9-18, the Oly 17 1.8, the PL25, and the Oly 45. It may not come to surprise you that I used the PL25 the most, followed by the 9-18, then the 17. I didn't use the fisheye at all, but I should've. One of the things that I was wary of the most is the battery life, as I have never fully drained the battery before due to use - I just simply hadn't used it that much. I went to Cuba for a vacation last year and at that time, I had a Nikon system. For that trip, I brought 2 batteries but only used half of one, and it got me about 450 shots. That's one good thing about DSLR's, they don't have an LCD screen that's always on so it sips battery. You can leave it on and just pick it up and shoot whenever you're ready. I'm finding that with the M4/3, I constantly have to turn the camera off in fear that the battery may not last. In hindsight, my fears were reasonable - at the end of the trip, while at the airport going home, my last battery died. I got about 400 shots for 3 batteries.

What I love about my new system is that I was able to travel with 5 lenses in a small shoulder bag (Lowepro Event Messenger 150), and I'm still able to fit a couple of ND filters, 2 extra batteries, my Blackrapid strap, my passport, some paper work, and a PS VITA. I didn't have room for anything else but the bag wasn't bulging. It was so light compared to my Nikon kit. I loved every minute of travelling with this system and the weight of the lenses.

Anyway, here are some pictures.

The Catamaran dropped us off into some virgin island. I was about 100 feet from the island and it was starting to get scary carrying a camera in the water, but I wanted this shot

Hey Nic! I've visited Varadero, Havana, and this time, Cayo Santa Maria. Have you been?
Yes I have Jay, I was there around this time last year. Havana, Santa Clara, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Camaguey, Santiago, and Baracoa. A fascinating country seemingly facing some major changes in the not-too-distant future.

Wow, that's a lot of places. It's true about the changes. Seems like everyday I was there someone was talking about eliminating the CUC altogether and having one universal currency, which makes more sense anyway. So they've advised us not to take CUC's home because if or when we come back, it may not be accepted anymore.

Good stuff! I've always wanted to visit there. I enjoyed them all, but really like the picture of the boy looking out at the ocean. The ocean can make one feel so at peace in the moment.
