75mm_f1_4_Cosmicar_50mm_Summicron_061_24_.JPG The Cosmicar is very soft at f1.4 (here)-nice and sharp by f2.0. The location of the focus ring is very handy, but takes a while to get used to

I posted this elsewhere, but it represents the capabilities of this lens so well that I wanted to put it in this thread as well.

i used to have this along with an ep2 and thought it was one of the best c mounts i shot. for those wanting to shoot manual focus, some of these c mounts should not be overlooked, and this is one of them.

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with it. Mine has a bit of haze behind the front element, which I may try to clean. Other than that, the contrast needed a small boost -- but that can be good for portraits.

I found my copy attached to a broken video camera for about $70. Definitely a deal at that price.

Just bought what I think is this lens. It looks like this:

    EP5_75mmf1.4.

I did some quick and dirty test images:

    @ f1.4
    Cosmicar75mmf1.4.

    @ f2
    Cosmicar75mmf2.

    @f2.8
    Cosmicar75mmf2.8.

As you can see, it's bit soft and glowy wide open, but better than a lot of old adapted lenses. Sharpens up nicely as you stop down.

It really is a fun lens-interesting change of character with change of aperture - if I were forced to keep just a few lenses, this would be one of them.

I saw this pic when I was trying to confirm the identity of the lens from the eBay photos and really poor description - at least this made it very cheap, if something of a gamble.
I've been looking for a fast lens of this sort of length for a while (can't afford the O75) and I'm hoping I get on with this one.

This isn't really a substitute for the fabulously sharp Oly. On a budget I would search for MF nikon/pentax/minolta 85mm f1.8-2

I'd like any of the 85mm lenses you've mentioned and I've always got my eyes peeled for cheap ones. However I'd probably still hanker after the O75 if I found one. The Cosmicar will certainly do for now and I'm really trying hard to stop buying lenses although it seems I'm just not very good at it!

If I could only keep 2, I'd choose the Takumar and the Cosmicar. I don't have the Oly even though it is reportedly superb! The RF Nikon has a lovely quality, too.
