I've done very little B&W shooting since turning to digital, but I thought I'd try it out with this photo, taken on the Chamisa Trail in the Santa Fe National Forest.

To my eye, it's a rather flat, drab image to which the colors add nothing. I converted it to B&W using grayscale conversion in Lightroom. (There are better ways to do it, I realize, using HSL; but they didn't seem to make a big difference.

This is also not a world-beater, but I think it has a pleasant, calm quality that the color version doesn't have.

    Comments and critique welcome.
