Today when I opened my 500px profile there's a banner saying that I need to confirm ID in order to receive pay out from 500px since someone "licensed" one of my photos.

Let's just skip the feeling excited part. So I followed the procedures, selected nationality and uploaded passport scan and a head shot to confirm it's me, and as said, it'll take up to an hour to update the confirmation status, so I'm just killing time posting my experience here.

Now the question is, I DO feel excited, and it feels strange that I've never received any formal notification other than that on a banner, plus there's no hint which one of my photos' been licensed, all it says is that I need to confirm ID before Jun 25, is this real?

UPDATE: I did find the sale record in my 500 store, it is real, my first sale.

I'm thinking you just got scammed. They would not use a banner ad to inform you about someone buying a photo. Did they specifically say passport scan? That seems a bit odd to me. What other information was requested?

Hi thanks, I found the sale in my 500px store and it seems to be real. It didn't specify passport scan but you know that's usually what they ask for, so I uploaded. The guy purchased "print ready" license for USD 149 and I got 30% of that, which hasn't reached the lowest payout amount (50), and then deduct tax, 10% for Chinese sellers... so complicated

I would be really wary of giving someone a scan of your passport.

you guys always remind me of how wonderful this place is for sharing joys and concerns, thank you!
now the photo, I'm a little shy since it is not what I considered people would pay 149 for, I took it for fun
I'm not sure if we can embed 500px in here, this is it

Sometimes it's the "for fun" shots that surprise us when others really like them. Your photo obviously made an impression on the purchaser. I think it's fabulous! Congratulations again, my friend. I always enjoy your photos and am so happy for you! [emoji2]

    Congrats on the sale!

Bit of a steep commission though... 70% and you still have to pay taxes etc out of your cut...?

Thank. I think out of the USD 149 he paid, I got 44.7 (30%) because this is a non-exclusive license otherwise 60% for exclusive license. After that, I submitted my <fw8ben> tax form so that I get a rate of 10% for being a Chinese seller, there should be about 40 Dollars left for me. If you don't submit the form, 30% tax it will be.

    $149? That's steep IMO.

    Congrats...

Hi, I got an email from 500px a few months ago that my picture of a temple roof in Taipei had sold, and then recently they asked for ID, etc. Per their new policies.

    Congratulations on your sale.
