I'm a little behind on my photo processing with all the holiday events, but I finally got these posted and through I'd share. This Christmas eve I once again made a trip to visit my friend Matthew Paul, owner/operator of MP Knives. Matt is a blacksmith and blade maker who makes all his knives through hand-forging - just a forge, hot steel, and anvil, and hammers & tongs

Matt made a pair of paring knives for me this year as Christmas gifts, so I went by to pick them up last minute and take a little while to hang out with a good friend as well. I brought along my GH3 and took a few snaps while Matt was working.

Some of Matt's work in progress (a short sword)

Finished product - a simple hand-made bottle opener. Matt also made the calipers at the bottom, and the folding knife at the top.

Oh, and of course one action shot from Christmas day from the one Matt gave me for a Christmas gift. Probably the most-used gift I've gotten this year

I like the composition in the "finished product" shot and am wishing I could see more of his face in the two of him working. Always fun to shoot something out of the ordinary.

    Thanks Doug.

If you enjoy checking out the blacksmithing work, there's a much more extensive set posted from last year, when I visited Matt and got to spend a few hours while he was forging a claw hammer as a Christmas gift for his dad. More pics of the process and a more complex project on that one too.
