    Hi everyone,

I was lucky enough to see Comet Lovejoy this morning (Christmas Eve morning). Shot near Gerringong, NSW (not far from home):

    p695544810.

And if that was not enough, the International Space Station decided to fly by, only moments later

Thank you all, and Merry Christmas!

P.S. I have received some reports claiming that it's not the ISS, but Santa and his reindeer getting up to speed!

Amazing pictures Rudi. I missed it so I'm glad you got it.

I reckon it's where the six white boomers took over from the reindeers, left 'em for dead.

Thank everyone, glad you like it.

I brought the big guns with me, seeing that I might only have the once chance at it. Canon EOS 7D with 24-70mm f/2.8 L lens, my biggest tripod, etc. Most exposures were 30 seconds at ISO 400, f/2.8, shooting through a bit of sea spray and haze (the biggest problem I had was outrunning the clouds).

    Thanks!

You too, Amin. All the best to you and yours!

Sure. Same thing as on the previous day: This is the gear I used, with the exception of also bringing the EF-S 10-22mm lens today. I used this lens to include the beautiful Norfolk Pine trees that you can see in my shots from today.

    27 December update:

Another morning of cloud cover! Just like yesterday (Boxing Day).

Woke up bright and early this morning, since comet Lovejoy is moving away from the Sun and rising earlier every morning. Looked it up on Starry Night Pro the night before, and saw that the ISS was making another pass around 3:16 am, so was all ready for another great photo op. Unfortunately, the local weather is very un-Christmaslike at the moment, the sky was overcast in all directions.

    Another try tomorrow...

    UPDATE: Friday, 30 December 2011

There was a lot of sea spray and haze around this morning, and the sky was not as dark as it could have been as a result. Even so, comet Lovejoy is fading quickly. It is struggling not to blend into the Milky Way background now:
