I have a gf3 and the oem neck strap is too uncomfortable when i hang my camera around my neck for the whole day. I am looking for a cheap and comfortable neck strap. Hand or sling straps will not work for me (already tried both). have the free smug smug neck strap which is great but only fits onto dslrs. Looking for something similar, and hoping to spend <10. I m not into brands so knock offs will do. Any suggestions?

Why won't the Smugmug strap fit?

I have two UpStraps and wouldn't necessarily advise them for anyone, even if you wanted to pay the price. They certainly live up to their claim of sticking like the proverbial to a blanket, but they are also the most dangerous (to camera gear) straps that I've owned. They will catch you unawares every time if you are not careful and grab anything and everything they can when you pick up your camera, and try and rip it from your hands. I have come so close to having my gear ripped out of my hands, that I ended up getting one of these straps: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Skidproo..._Photographic_Accessories&hash=item53fcb28b41 (close enough anyway), because I got so fed up with the UpStrap. This one is almost exactly the one I bought: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Skidproo...140106155344&rk=3&rkt=6&sd=360721845057&rt=nc.

The eBay strap is very lightweight, stays put reasonably well on your shoulder and, most importantly, doesn't try to attach itself to anything and everything not a part of your body and is surprisingly strudy. I once even contacted the UpStrap maker to ask whether he could produce some form of sleeve, so that the strap didn't act so much like a pendulum and try and grab everything within reach. My suggestion was in the lines of the design in the eBay link, but with the UpStrap rubber part forming the central part of the strap and the rest neoprene. My suggestion was rejected in no uncertain terms, manufacturers always know what's best..

I thought most camera loops/straps were standard. My strap is 12mm wide and fits the E-PL1 no problems.

The 'eBay strap' comes in a variety of sizes and widths and should cost about 2 US Dollars.
Look for other sizes, you might find one that fits.

I bought a pack of (forget what they're called. See attached image).
They are very useful for attaching cameras with triangular lug straps and smaller lugs, rotate around the axis, are easily detachable etc.
I use them with the neoprene noname strap ('eBay strap'). You might find this very useful.

I search a little more on the neosprane and you can buy one that comes with a small metal hook to hook onto any camera. I am going to look into trimming the ends of the smug smug strap.

I think you mean a hook that screws into the tripod mount. Tried it and didn't like it... Too cumbersome to remove.

    1) When you say "sling" did you try the type of strap where the camera attach fitting slides along the strap as you raise the camera to your eye or just one of those phoney (IMHO) "sling" straps that are nothing more than a long neck strap? The two styles are very different to use. I like the real slings quite a lot and have several.

    2) Why not just make your strap? You will probably not get by under $10 but you will learn something useful and end up with exactly what you want. There is so little sewing in a strap that you can do it by hand if you don't have access to a sewing machine. I have had good luck with http://myebestbuy.com/ for plastic bits, http://www.strapworks.com/default.asp for webbing, and http://www.seattlefabrics.com/ for webbing, neoprene, and fabrics. If you like leather, http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com has all kind of stuff; leather strips, dye, brass buckles, etc. I have couple of leather straps that used raw leather from them. One with a very nice looking solid brass bridle buckle for adjusting length.

See the little ring in the picture below.

When I said sling strap I mean the black rapid sling strap - I already use one that i use for a bigger camera, tried it on the gf3 and its not for me.

For the DIY approach I think the easiest way is to just tape some soft material onto the oem neck strap.
