Charlevoix

My family spent the 4th of July weekend up in Charlevoix, which is near the northwest tip of Michigan's lower peninsula. My wife's mother was born and raised there, and my wife practically grew up there too. Although Charlevoix is quite a tourist spot, it's more like home to Sara, and by extrapolation, me.

Despite a fairly new herniated cervical disc, I had a great weekend, and was especially glad I was carrying :43: gear and not my Canons. I got a good chance to give my new 7-14 a bit of workout too.

There are more pictures from this weekend, and from many previous trips to Charlevoix, at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ronssmith/sets/72157619386703947/

I am enjoying what you are making that lens do...

Both 5 and 8 are very appealing to my eye. Did you shoot RAW and process, or are these straight from the camera?

Thank you for posting these, Ron, you already know how much I enjoyed even the first 25 or more from that set on Flickr.

Who'd have thought that water was lake water! Beautifully seen and so many within, that I fell in love with...including some you took with your Nikon.:biggrin:

Thanks for posting these -- I'll be there on the 20th on my way to Beaver Island (that's where the Emerald Isle ferry is going). I can't wait.

Have a great time. I've been going to Charlevoix regularly for about 25 years, and have never gone to Beaver Island. One of these days!

Thought I'd try some of these in B&W. What do you think?

Ron, you had beautiful colour in your first set... I don't see the advantage of going B&W here.

Thanks Brian.

The first two above actually looked almost like that because of the morning fog and drizzle. I wanted to see how the sailing shots looked taking the color out of the equation. Not terribly well. I didn't even try going B&W with the Boy and His Dog shot; I thought the color was too integral to the composition.

I think b&w is good for capturing a mood and only work with certain types of shots. It looks great with the 1st 2 pictures, but the sailing photos definitely lose something.
