Banal shot but do you see this in either of these shots?

I see it all over the sky in the first photo, and perhaps in the paint on the car in the second. It would probably be much more noticeable if viewed full size. My E-P1 is noisy that way too.

Here's the thing, though - I don't think it's just sensor noise. I have the same lens as you, and it's noisy. When I took a couple of photos with a borrowed Panasonic 20mm, and when I use my adapted Pentax 50mm, I get much less noise at the same ISO. The difference is jaw-dropping.

I don't know what the mechanics of noise production is in this case. After getting my E-P1, I was initially disappointed that my images were noisier than what I was getting with my five year old Kodak EasyShare. Now I'm just disappointed that the kit lens has disadvantages that nearly balance out its advantages.

Brianetta, after reading your reply, I tried it with my 17mm pancake, the noise grows as the aperture shrinks; esp in the shadows.
Please note I only really notice it when viewed at 100%, ah the bane of pixel peeping!

Lili... Your real good at what you do.
Just do it and don't let others opinions steer you.
I do mostly B&W so noise converts to grain. Even in my color stuff, I add grain to use the noise.
Remember the film daze......?

Thanks Don, I am playing also with the NR abnd noise filter settings.
I like the detail I get in my e410/510, the noise there looks like grain too and that is OK by my.
Far better than blotching.
One good thing, I forgot just how sharp the pancake is. Nice to have it back on the cam...

Noise, grain?? How bout we just call it texture? Whatever it is I like it in my photos and in yours. I have the noise filter turned off in my E-PL1 and am more than happy with the results.....
