So it'd been a while since I'd taken a walk through central park, so I decided to go today. It was quite fun! At one point I came across an entertainer who basically made huge bubbles that seemed to pop in slow motion. Very cool. I took hundreds of shots, but here a few selections. C&C welcome and hope you enjoy! These are all shot with the 25mm f1.4, the 12-50 at 12, and the 45mm f1.8. You might also like to know that I captured most of these bubble shots using C-AF + Tracking, which I thought it did a surprisingly decent job of, given the complexity of what I was capturing. A number of misses, but a lot more hits, and certainly more than I expected.

The bubble shots are brilliant. The B&Ws aren't too shabby either :bravo-009:

Nice stuff Napier...the first shot is awesome as is the last.
I really like the shots taken from behind the entertainer into the sun, really great light and works superbly against the bubbles.

Out of curiosity, did you do anything the enhance the sun glow/flare...the light looks really warm, good stuff.

Totally cool that you caught focus on the bubbles! I bet kids were eating it up!

Nice work, I liked a lot of those but I agree with Livnius, the first & last shots stood out and I really dig the one of the bubble-maker shooting into the sun :2thumbs:

    Thanks everyone!

Nope! As you can see the sun was shining rather horizontally, so getting flare wasn't very hard. Although all of the images had PP worked on them(a couple a bit too much, in retrospect), if anything I reduced the appearance of flare by increasing contrast and clarity..

Also of note, I don't think I did so in this case, but often times I do remove the hood from my 25mm because I want to get flare purposefully... Part of the reason I love using old MF glass is that these lenses tend to have very cinematic lens flare.

I also just try to compose my images or change the aperture such that I can get the desired amount of flare. In that first bubblemaker shot, I waited till he turned around and faced the sun to take it. It's a shame the sun didn't last above the horizon of the trees and buildings very long, so the cool flare left soon after.

Those are some cool bubbles :)
Like the timing on the ones popping two thumbs up :)

Funny that one floating bubble pic #14made me think of one of my favorite fashion photographers melvin sokolsky

Not sure if you have seen his stuff ?
But check out his paris 1963 stuff and remember this was all way before PS days it will make sense why the floating bubble made me think of him :)
