Great find! I had a couple of questions:

    1) can you shoot to infinity with it?
    2) is it really f1.2; if you compare the exposure of a wall with even lighting to your 45/1.8, what is the shutter speed difference?
    3) which of the shots above are wide open at f1.2?

    I appreciate your efforts!

I have the same lens, I think it's made from the same guys that make Fujian brand lenses. There are a lot of these on eBay and they usually come with an adapter.

One interesting feature is the continuous aperture, might be useful if you are shooting video. Downside is you can't tell how much you are stopping down, as there are no marks on the aperture ring (besides Open/Close on each end).

This lens is made for a 1/2-inch CCD sensor, so the image circle barely covers the m4/3 sensor. If you shoot wide open and use 3:2,6:6 or 1:1, vignetting is manageable. If you stop down, vignetting increases quickly in all modes. If you shoot in bright light, you definitely need some ND filters for this lens. Especially on my E-PL1 that only has 1/2000 max shutter speed.

We should start a thread for this in the lens sample forum.

Thanks for asking . This is what I love the most about MFT , u can get such cheap lenses for cost of sunday lunch ..hahha
Answer 1) U can shoot infinity
    2) I c ant tell if its really 1.2 or not as there are no markings on it .
    3) I will compare soon with my 45mm 1.8 soon
    4) all shots are at maximum aperture i.e 1.2

Its just fun for only 22 Bucks , u dont even get a camera bag for that money . I would recommend it for fun and its not very hard to focus either .
    cheers

I'm a big fan of the "character" of this type of lens. I have the Cosmicar version, 25mm f/1.4. It vignettes, but I actually think that's a bonus

This type of lens also has a peculiar "swirly" bokeh...

I got mine for $90 + adapter last year. Definitely worth a try for those not afraid of manual focus

starlabs, the Pentax/Cosmicar is a much different lens. I think the price reflects the difference in quality. I also think yours might be a 2/3" or 1" format lens.

I got my 25mm f1.2 for around 25 euros, including adapter. Meanwhile, all the nice CCTV lenses are shooting up in price, hard to find a good deal on eBay.

Good point. Yeah, odds are it's a bit different lens (given the f/1.4 vs f/1.2 apertures). They all vignette and have the characteristic swirly bokeh, though

I think the mirrorless market is much bigger than most people suspect, given how popular legacy manual focus lenses are on eBay...

Interesting that the swirly-bokeh typical of CCTV lenses and clearly evident in starlabs' Cosmicar isn't present in yours. I'm intrigued.

Some samples from me, shot on an E-PL1. My lens came witha rubber ring to be used as a shim, I think I need to trim it down a bit to get a bit sharper focus at infinity.

I think these are all in 3:2 mode. Makes the vignetting almost disappear when there's enough light.

f1.2, illustrates the very shallow DoF. See how the grain is not visible everywhere because of the paper's subtle waves.

Very filmic look to those shots, are you processing these manually or just taking JPEG?

I lost the rubber ring that came with the lens, so I made my own shim out of paper. Needs about 9 paper rings, so that's about 0.9 mm. It now has much sharper focus at infinity. I guess the guys that sell these cheap lenses (and adapters) are not to be trusted when it comes to infinity focus claims.

    Some more pictures.

I noticed imgur was compressing my photos a lot, so I just signed up on 23hq.com. Looks like a great alternative to Flickr so far.

So now you can see actual out-of-camera JPGs, click on the pictures and find the full version on 23hq (around 4mb each).
