Thats good macro, nice pictures!
Is that lens expensive?
Smashing shots richie.
How do these shots compare to the Pany/Leica 45mm Macro lens ???
Thanks, £75 inc extension tube and case
I prefer it to the PL45mm, I think the BOKEH is better and dare I say it it is sharper. The AF on the PL does hunt a bit but is suitable for both macro and portrait whereas this lens is only really good IMO for macro. Macro on the PL was a bit of a pain as there was loads of play in the focus ring and because of no markings you never really knew where you were.
With any mf lens I find easier to use on the G1 rather than the GF1 because of the viewfinder.
Have you tried any other mf lenses?
IMO the PL does not merit £570 and I have sold mine.
Richie15 Just bought Canon 50mm Macro Hints Please
I just purchased a Canon FD 50mm F/3.5 Macro with the FD 25 adapter on EBay. Although, it hasn't arrived yet since I just purchased it today..I was wondering if you have any hints/tips for making this lens perform in the hands of someone who has never used a macro but has been inspired by your photo's above to give it a go?
Anything about this lens and it's use would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the comments.
I would ignore the extension tube for a start and just use the lens, practicing on flowers. That would you have a stationery subject and you can change the aperture and explore how this impacts on depth of field. Once you have mastered big flowers, try smaller ones.
Then move on to using flash with the lens and see what difference that makes
Finally apply the extension tube.
In all cases I would hold the camera by hand and not use a tripod, make sure the shutter speed is at least 1/150 of a sec. (With a flash this max. out at 1/160 anyway).
Hope this helps.
Richie15 thanks for the info..here's my 1st effort with the lens.
Good start but slightly ooof. Have you got any others?
Here is one, no crop

Ladybug on rose bud...
GF-1 handheld at 1:2 (ie without the 25 extension), probably f8 or 11, 100th or 160th I think... the forum's auto resizing to "medium" has produced artifacts in the bokeh of the jpg shown here
Hoverfly on rose
Another one, with the GH-2
Meant to take my 1.4 with me to Jasper but accidentally packed the 3.5 instead. Not sorry though
This lens works well even in non-macro settings.
And some close ups:
All of the above pictures are hand held, no flash and mostly wide open. Very little post processing, mainly crop and increase contrast a little. There's some loss in clarity due to down scaling.
