Showcase Canon 20mm f/2.8 FD

  1. Canon new FD 20mm f2.8 bayonet mount on Olympus Pen E-P1

Sadly the lens I had was not a particularly representative sample of this model. It had some internal fungus which gave it a bit of a vaseline-on-the-lens kind of look with very poor contrast out-of-camera. The following pictures were 'rescued' as much as possible with some post-processing to make them presentable.

Quite a shame really because otherwise it was a very sharp lens and would have made a nice 40mm full-frame equivalent MF lens for m4/3.

Picked up my 20mm f2.8 FD lens and really like it. I did not stop down enough in the early morning sun to get enough depth of field. But, like I said, I love the lens on my E-P2.

A really nice lens in just about every way. The 180° focus-throw gives you great control over focus, it'll close-focus to 25cm (10 inches), the bokeh is very fun when you're shooting something up close, and the 40mm FOV on µ4/3 is a great all-around focal length. If I weren't so in love with my FD 24/2 it'd get a lot more time on the camera, but the time that it does get makes me happy. CA seems to be its biggest weakness and when wide-open it can create some very strange out-of-focus highlights that aren't lovely.

    From tonight's walk:

Speedboosted, this'll become a 14mm f/2 which I think could be very interesting to play around with too.
