Cool story. But a lot of it really depends on where you live or what you do. There's still places around the globe that have not heard of the internet.

Where I live and for what I do, most probably not. Actually, I'll be unemployed if I stop using the internet :)

    What a terrible thought!!

I get all my news online -- Libération, Le Monde, BBC, The Guardian, NYTimes, and so on. I doubt I could afford subscriptions to the paper version of them all, and the overseas papers would be a week old by the time I got them.

Yes, I could live without it. But at the moment I'd rather not.

Nope... Well, technically I can live, But man, I've been connected since '94 when I was 14. Prodigy what up! My first recurring bill as an adult was AOL. Seriously it would be weird.

I could live on a deserted island. Cool story from The Verge. One of my daily stops too.

I want to give that guy a hug after reading that. He clearly was looking to find some answers through the process, but didn't at all. It seems like he benefitted from the 'decompression' at the start, the newness of the situation, but it didn't last. His social anxiety and passivity is something he'll have to get to grips with gradually, there won't be one big fix.

It completely speaks to me, the idea that an existence without the internet isn't reality. When so much of what we do happens online, a life without the internet seems somewhat false, you're denying an essential part of human interaction. When everything around you is enabled by it, you're still indirectly a part of it.

I'm either a "right in the middle of it" or "far far away from it" type of person. Since I work in software engineering and live in a fair-sized city, no, I probably would be doing myself a disservice to avoid the internet, and there's no good reason to try. But give me the means to support myself and a cabin in the woods or a shack on the beach and I can tell you right now that I'd never miss it.

If I moved to a small island with a few million in the bank account I could probably live without the internet.

    Honestly? No.

I am paid via the internet.
I receive work rosters via internet.
I access home, contents, healthcare and car insurance via the internet.
ALL of my uni correspondence and assessment was delivered via internet.

Dropping the internet isn't just ignoring cat photos in Instagram...

LoL okay well if we're getting that granular - then might as well ask if the world can exist without it

    LOL me too!

As for the internet....yeah I COULD live without it...but I wouldn't want to LOL

Although I've always admired people who could live off the grid and just moved to the middle of nowhere. Stories like that fascinate me.
