Buying international Olympus gear and warranty

I know that Olympus ended their worldwide warranty program in September, but I've heard any new old stock gear sold with the old worldwide warranty card will have warranty honored in the U.S. Has anyone bought import Olympus gear with the old card and had any issues having warranty service done?

Also, there is a huge difference in price between U.S. prices and Asia/Australia prices right now. The E-M1 + 12-40mm is selling in Japan and Korea for under $1700, compared to $2100 in the U.S. (and that's with the current $300 off). Someone posted about the E-M1 + 12-40 going for $1400 AUD in Australia, which is under $1200 USD. Why the huge discrepancy in pricing?

Another example of the incredible pricing discrepancy - Olympus sells a special edition E-M5 with modified grip and dials and the 12-40mm lens in Japan as an "E-M5 PRO lens kit" for ¥113,543 (about $950 USD). Here it is on Amazon Japan:

Yet you pay $1600 for a vanilla E-M5 and 12-40mm lens here in the U.S., and that's after a $400 off promotion.
And in the UK it would cost over $2000!
