Here's a second session, both girls Ashley & Jennie.

    G1 / MD Rokkor 50 F1.7

Far less post. Fill Flash Added for shots backlit by the sun.. it was the FL36, but set to 1/4 power it recycled in under 1 hour per flash.

  2. Nice poses. I like the backlighting effect on the hair, etc. I'm thinking these might like a run through Darken/Lighten Centre* in Color Efex to darken the background and edges a little. Were these run past the two "censors" first before posting?

*I find this a bit oddly named, since I mostly use it to darken edges.

    Hi Gary,

There's your fill idea at work. Sun directly behind them, nice halo, a little fill flash.

I'm with Gary. They're all good, but the #2 feels the more natural and less constrained over all.

    Cheers,

Agreed! Soon as I saw it I said, "That's MUCH nicer!!"

Did you use a scrim / diffuser on the flash or just point it head-on? Very nice look. Now I'm gonna have to try the FL-36R with my Rokkor 1.4.

    Hi Barefootpilgrim,

Yes, I used a little diffuser. It takes an act of congress (or Gary Ayala) to get me to use a flash at all... so not straight on. Turned the power down, clipped a diffuser on, and blasted away.

It isn't as if there's mystery involved as there was in the past. You can see the exposure as soon as you shoot. Shoot, too hot - stop down or less flash power. Get it about right for the distance, and fire away.

PS> How did you guys like the rendering from that Rokkor?
