Hey, i'am looking for a cheap telephoto for my gx8, after considering everything together (price, extra reach, sharpness, compatibility with gx8) what would you say is the best option?

I would love to hear some of your thoughts

What kind of reach and what are you wanting to photograph? There is the Olympus 40-150 that you can get pick up for $99 or one of the xx-300 lenses you can get for a reasonable price.

I would not call that a telephoto lens.

Oops sorry , I got my definitions mixed up , shouldn't post first thing when I wake up :). I've used the Pana 45-150 to good effect and its available for $200, but I swapped it and my 14-42 for the 14-140mm II which I got for around $400. That lives on my GX8 now.

I have the old 40-150 which is cheap and effective in decent light. I think all of your shortlist would be superior - I'd choose the Panasonic 45-150 for compatibility.

    Things to consider:
Cheapest might be the Oly 45-150, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
Pan 45-150 and 45-175 will both work with dial IS on the GX8, 45-200 will not.
Pan 45-175 is a power zoom but is small, light, and doesn't extend when zooms.
Only one I haven't owned is the Pan 45-150, of the other 3 it's been a toss up between the Pan 45-175 and 45-200 with the Oly 45-150 in the rear.

So reach, power zoom, dual IS, and size/weight would be my deciding factors between the Pan 45-175 and 45-200.

The Pan 45-150 does get good reviews, I've just never owned one.

Does the Power zoom on the Pan 45-175 mean that you can't zoom normally or that you have the option to use the power zoom?

The zoom ring and on lens zoom switch are both zoom by wire. I REALLY don't like power zooms. But I would say the Pan 45-175 and Oly 12-50 are the least offensive, for me anyway.
