Couldn’t resist taking this photo of the insect wildlife while on a recent visit to the Morris Arboretum in PA. While it was somewhat larger than its organic relative, it did do me the courtesy of hovering in place to allow me to take a quick snap before flying off.

I was watching the behaviour of the nectar-robbers yesterday.
It looked to me as if the larger (more powerful?) bumblebees were doing the donkey work, biting through the side of the flower, and the smaller bees were taking advantage of the new route to nectar supplies.
I didn't see any of the smaller bees doing any cutting work - just moving from hole-to-hole.
Lots of bumblebees about yesterday, it's as if they suddenly realised summer is over and they need to get as much nectar as they can before it's too late...

First foray ever out in the flower beds with the PL50-200, trying a bit of this and that, mostly the pre-burst thingy. Very much not what I do, but great fun was had and it wont be the last time.

We have a patch of lavender in the back garden, which they seem to love. I think there are at least three different types, but haven't had time to look them up to check yet!
