Had a nifty battery charger that also had a USB port (I thought powered but clearly says only 350mA) but the charger got fried after ~ 30 minutes trying to charge my kids new kindle (the cheap one). Can't find the spec on the kindle for the charging current draw ... the aftermarket power adapter comes in 850mA and 1.8A (!!!) versions.

How freaking lame to have a battery charger with USB that plugs into the AC but also has an external power connecter so the USB can be powered. If they didn't cost only $10 I'd seriously consider rewiring the thing.

  2. For the Kindle Touch pretty sure it's a 5watt draw. 1A, 5volts.

Unusual for a charger to be cooked by a device. Usually if the charger doesn't have enough current then the device won't charge or charges slowly. Have a look at this one. It charges everything I own.
