After convincing myself that I wanted to switch to the Nikon Z6 and finding the long lenses to be too big, then trying an X-T3 (couldn’t stand the front and rear wheels) and then trying an X-T4 I’ve found my way back to a G9:

The systems I tried had their benefits but in the end the compactness of the 35-100mm won me back. That and I couldn’t truthfully see a significant difference in the photos I was taking (mainly travel / family). Now... where’s this GX8 replacement Panasonic!

I got the G9 and 12-60 Leica for £999 on the eBay Panasonic outlet store, then have the following already or due to arrive:
  • Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 Mk II
  • Olympus 17mm f/1.2 (couldn’t resist the £699 offer price!)
  • Sigma 56mm f/1.4

Nice choice of lenses  I’m still looking at coming back with an e-m10 mk2 and a couple of primes..

No hurry as no one is really going out much at the moment..

Welcome back, seems the grass isn’t always greener! I think you’ll keep the 17 longer than usual ?

Welcome back! I know how you feel. I still look at a Z6 from time to time longingly but I know from past experience, I won't use it any more than my m43, won't produce any better results, will take it out less due to size, and can almost physically watch it depreciate. The thing I'm resisting right now is the G9 + 100-400 (up from my GX85 + 100-300), but work is keeping me very busy right now, so no time for any new gear.

If you stick beneath the 100mm FF focal length the Z6 and f/4 lenses and primes aren’t that far removed from the size of the Olympus Pro primes, 7-14 and 12-40. Once you go above 100mm you’re into adapted lens territory and things get big very quickly!

I’m debating switching out the 12-60 for the 8-18, but I’ll wait a wee bit to see if I miss the wide angles.
Welcome back! The 8-18 is a great lens, though since I got mine, I’ve had very little use for it until places reopen. I mainly have it for when someday I’ll see some sites and maybe take a vacation again, and it will be my landscape go-to.

I'm going to dabble with a Z6. I've sold my EM1.3 (on reflection, it's not offering much over the EM1.2 so the extra cost is pointless). I mostly do landscape and I rarely use anything longer than 100mm (on m43), so the Z6 kit probably won't be much bigger than the E-M1. Anyhow - time will tell. I'm not letting any of my key m43 lenses go just yet.

The Z6 with the 14-30/4 and 24-70/4 is a surprisingly compact kit. I came a cropper when I wanted a 70-200 lens and the size just didn’t work for me.

I agree actually. Up to about 100mm (equiv), FF lenses are still manageable. Once you get into 70-200 zooms things change quickly, even if you go for the f4 versions.

The 24-200 is however about the same size and weight of the 12-100 (at least when collapsed, can't find info on its length extended - but I guess this is less important).

Just be wary about being a used Z6 because the Nikon grip falls apart where your finger tips sit on the front of the camera. It happened to mine and there are plenty of reports of it happening to other Z6s.
