As we seem to have a few Australians in mu-43 I thought it might be nice to have a thread with distinctly Australian stuff in it, maybe landscapes, beaches, bbq scenes, icons, people - anything you think that you might like to share with the the rest of the World and covey what is Australian.

To start it off, here is a jar of Vegemite...

Vegemite by Voigtlander by peterb666, on Flickr

Taken with an Olympus E-P1 and Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 set to f/2.0. OK - the focus is a little off - should have been about 3mm towards to the camera - the Vegemite still tastes the same.

Certainly needs to be spread very thinly.

Hey, what could be more iconic in Australia than gum trees by a country road.

    Here's another one.....

BTW, the 'spectacular flowering shrub' earlier in this thread is the 'Callistemon' - commonly called the Bottlebrush, and they are flowering profusely in Sydney at the moment, due to all the rain we have had recently.

Nice one, Gary. It's good to see a view of the Opera House that isn't the standard 'from the water' shot.

They may look cute but they ate my chilli plant, do their bodily functions on my front porch and fall out of trees after getting a bit of funny business and go thump onto my roof.

I see they have the Queensland spelling for beer at the top and the rest of Australia spelling at the bottom.

  19. We can't read anything below the first line. I think that is there for the export market only.

agreed! number one reason non-aussies don't like it!

A Peruvian colleague was introduced to it by being given a spoonful of it and being told "try it" he hated it!
