Dear current and past subscribing members:
A while back, I increased the price of the yearly subscription from $5 to $10, and I said that members who were subscribed at the $5/year rate could continue at that rate as long as they didn't cancel. I really wanted to make that work, in part because I knew that a lot of people who are made to cancel will not choose to re-subscribe.
Unfortunately, it's proven impossible to make the system work so that members already on the $5 plan can continue with that without offering new subscriptions at that same rate. When I turn off the option for new subscriptions at the $5 rate, old subscriptions continue to bill those members, but their subscribing member statuses don't get renewed on the site, so they are getting billing for nothing in return. I tried to fix this by buying an addon for the forum software, but it doesn't seem to be working properly. I continue to get PMs from members who have gotten billed and at the same time have had their subscriptions expire.
Because of all this:
1) I have canceled all the recurring payments from members who are set up to pay in $5 increments, whether that be $5 per year, $5 per 3 months, or $5 per month. If you were on one of those plans and didn't cancel at any point, you should have gotten an email from PayPal today saying that your recurring payment to asabet@gmail.com or vsabet@gmail.com has been canceled.
2) Your last subscription payment should continue to confer on you subscriber status for whatever period of time that was designated. So if you subscribed for $5 per year and got billed yesterday, then your subscribing member status on the site should not expire until one year from yesterday. At that point, you will not be automatically re-billed, but you will get a notice of expiration, and you can choose whether or not to re-subscribe.
If at any time you were billed and payment processed at any point and did not receive subscribing member status for the designated duration of time, please PM me with the following information so that I can manually* add back your subscribing member status:
If you resubscribed because of an expiration notice and now realize that you had been billed despite expiration and therefore have paid twice, please PM me with your PayPal address and the dates that each payment processed so that I can refund the redundant payment(s).
3) If I have canceled your recurring payment through PayPal, please do not re-subscribe until your current subscribing member status on the site expires unless you want to donate the extra money. I do not think the system will "stack" (extend) your current subscription. It will just re-start your subscription from today's date, so you won't get anything more by re-subscribing early. Edit: Some members have PM'd me asking for the link because they want to re-subscribe now, regardless. That page is here. I really appreciate it!
I apologize for any inconvenience and also that I am unable to keep existing subscribers "grandfathered in" at the old rate. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. And thank you for subscribing!
