I had a quick trip to the GA aquarium and downtown Atlanta this weekend. I really wish I had time to shoot more of Downtown Atlanta, but sometimes the girlfriend comes before photography.

I've got a decent set of photos from the Aquarium which I plan to post, along with some nighttime skyline pictures and some street/restaraunt photos.

Feel free to comment on any of these. I really did not have the time to make compositional decisions to make great photos. These were "in a hurry and on the fly" type of photos. I really need to go to Atlanta and spend some time just doing architecture.

These were taken mostly with the kit zoom lens.

Freestanding Olympic Torch Art/statue with GA aquarium in background:

    P2124808.JPG

Westin building with sun bouncing off, taken from Centennial Park. I added some perspective correction.

    P2124819.JPG

Another, different composition. Flags of the Olympic games included in the shot. Also perspective correction added:

    P2124820.JPG

This one here is not great compositionally, but sort of spoke to me. There seems to be some irony here.

    P2124836.JPG

Lastly, part of the skyline at sunset. I really didn't think this shot would turn out this well, but I was really suprised. Taken from our parking deck.

Small world it is? We were there Saturday, left Sunday. I had my E-P1 and was using the 17mm most of the time in the aquarium. Boy was it crowded. I've been there before a few years ago, and I think I enjoyed it more then. They had a sea lion exhibit which they don't have anymore.

By chance, that loooks like the pool deck on the Hilton Garden inn. You didn't stay there, did you?

    Very nice photos, btw.

    Thanks for the compliment.

You have a sharp eye - we did stay at the Hilton Garden Inn and those were shot Saturday from the rooftop pool.

It was crowded that day - but my wife, children and I had a blast - had almost as much fun in the heated outdoor pool as at the aquarium ...

Hope you and your girlfriend enjoyed the weeekend too - and if you stayed at the same hotel, I may have seen you outside Sunday morning when the fire alarm went off and the hotel was evacuated around 7am ...

Yes I was there! Wow, never in my life. Ran down 8 flights of stairs! We were pretty beat from the day before, so waking up to the fire alarm wasn't pleasant. It could have been worse, though.

We ended up going to Ikea on Sunday and headed back to Huntsville. I'm glad you and your family had a great time. We are thinking about doing the CNN tour and Coke tour next time we are over there. There is plenty to do in Atlanta.

Now if you two had done the proper thing and grabbed your cameras before evacuating, you'd have recognised one another.

Believe it or not, I did grab my camera, it was in a bag though:eek:

Left the laptop and everything else though. My girlfriend laughed and said she "sees where my priorities are".

I brought my wallet, phone and camera. A kind stranger snapped this unflattering, bed-head, photo of my family and I standing in front of one of the firetrucks ...

    Stephen,

It shows the moment, and that is what is important. I can't recall seeing you or your family. We went across the street on the other side of the fire trucks.

I told my girlfriend about discussing how you and your family were there too, and she was floored. What a small world.

As promised, here are a few more pictures. These are of downtown Atlanta at night.

This first one here was on the roof of our parking deck. I could not get the BofA building all the way into the frame(there was a wall there).

Here is one from the pool deck looking toward the World of Coke building.

Finally, not great, but through our hotel window. The top of the foreground building is actually the Georgia Aquarium.
