Hi, all. Wondering if there's any mirrorless guys in the Asheville, NC area?
Me, for one!
I stayed there on our 'southern states' trip. My girlfriend and I loved the atmosphere. Most 'european' of all the towns we visited in the US. (Nikon Coolpix P50)
I'm in Knoxville, TN. An hour and a half away from Asheville.
I'm in the Greensboro, NC area.
I'm in asheville! I thought I might be the only one but apparently not!
Are any of you active in AVL photo clubs or meetup groups?
No,I actually wasn't aware of any. But I honestly haven't looked very hard. Are you part of any?
I attended a couple of meetings of one several years ago, and have forgotten the name. There is a meetup group called "hiking with cameras" that sounds interesting but I have yet to try it.
Not from the area, but I also spent a little time there on vacation. The Biltmore is one heck of a photo op location. Even if it has been photographed a billion times.
These were from that vacation:
We will be in the Smokies this week and we are thinking of taking a day trip to Asheville. Any recommendations on how we should explore Asheville? We have been to the Biltmore before and we will not be visiting there this trip.
Do you like beer? The microbrewery scene is big. Lots of great places to eat. Downtown is eclectic and fun to stroll and people watch. Grove Park Inn is a popular tourist place. You just missed the annual topless women rally, which was today.
Thanks. My wife thinks that it was OK that we missed the topless rally. Post pics if you went.
I missed it also. Very small turnout this year. The shock factor seems to be over.
Let me know if you want restaurant recommendations.
Yes, to all recommendations, we will be there Wednesday. Thank you. Please feel free to message me the recommendations.
I would recommend Tupelo honey (new twist on southern food) , Mela (Indian food), doc chey's noodle house (Thai), Luella's bbq or 12 bones bbq. You should visit the Sierra Nevada brewery and wicked weed brewing and both have good food too.
I also highly recommend the La Zoom tour
Ditto on the recommendation for Tupelo Honey and 12 Bones. Also, the Terrace at the Grove Park has good food and great views.
Last recommendation - The Local Joint. Be forewarned, it's tucked in beside a gas station and isn't much to look at. But the food is excellent.
Hickory Nut Falls
Asheville from the Grove Park
And last, Linville Falls (closer to Grandfather Mountain)
I forgot about Tupelo Honey in my PM. Good suggestion.
I won't go back to Doc Chey after contracting food poisoning there.
I concur on La Zoom but do the night tour not the day tour.
Thanks for all of the recommendations!
If anyone wants recommendations for Boone area / northwestern NC, please let me know (I lived there for almost 20 years, and still visit a few times a year).
