    My 11 year old insists it is a raven. Here is a crop from an image moments before the creature took wing.

    I would lean towards crow, the beak doesn't look thick enough. Raven's have a hairy throat as well. Crows can be very big, but a Raven is still twice the size. Voice is also a good indicator, Raven's have a deeper voice.
