This building was originally built in 1928 as a school. The architectural style is called "Amsterdamse School". Now a monument and used for private housing.

To take this shot I had to set the lens to 12mm and stand on the public road with the risk of being run over by passing cars and busses. Somehow it worked out and I survived :)

I'm going to show all these within this one post, as they're all taken in the small town of Llanidloes in mid-Wales.

The first is the old Market Hall, built on the main crossroads in the town centre.
It dates from around 1600 and the upper floor used to house the courts and assize sessions.
It's now a fascinating museum.

This wonderful building used to be known as Sion Chapel, but is now the United Reform Church.

Just down the road are these fairly unremarkable-looking houses.

But seen from the rear, they have a totally different appearance, backing on to the River Severn.
Llanidloes and it's surrounding area was famous for producing Welsh Flannel and the locals often had small mills in the top storey of the houses and probably used the river for washing the finished article.

When industrialisation took over, a large mill was built the other side of the bridge, slightly further upstream.

And back in the town centre, this hotel dominates.

Though it has an unfortunate connection with history of the area.
The Chartist uprising came about during the 1840's with the collapse of the textile industries.

Now by-passed, Llanidloes is a fascinating town with lots of history.
I hope you enjoyed your brief visit.

Wales would definitely be on my list of places to visit, if it was not for my discomfort of driving standard on narrow roads on the wrong side of the road  pretty scary in Scotland.

The roads around where I live are so narrow, you can't drive on the wrong side. ;)
Compared to where I was born, the streets here are like parking lots back home and cars are like busses

This must be one of the oldest cottages in Wales.

Although I reckon it's had a fair bit of work modernising it over the last 329 years.
