Prep nationwide for the 100th Anniversary of ANZAC day (25th April) - commemorating the Gallipoli landings in 1915.

Fairly muted Anzac day today with C19 related lock-down in effect. I think a lot of Kiwis woke at dawn and stood outside their house on the street at dawn to commemorate the occassion in lieu of the usual public wreath laying ceremonies.

Our poppy sales would have been nonexistent this year; while I don't think that we are as locked down as in NZ, the usual locations for poppies are all ghost towns. Coinciding with the massive disarray in the RSL, I think many people would also be looking for other ways to recognise and help returned service people.

The chap few doors along had been practising his bugle (trumpet?) for the last few weeks. He started off badly enough that it might have been his #covidchallenge - to learn to play a musical instrument. I am pleased to report that he had improved A LOT by dawn on Saturday. There was another player in the next street, which added to the sense of community for those who stood in their driveways.
