I'm considering upgrading from my current G6, which doesn't raise ISO when using an external flash (Nissin i40), always 160 albeit on auto, which results in underexposure or slow shutter speed (1/60s).

I used to shoot the Oly EPL5 and it was way more clever. It also lets you choose min shutter speed when flash is used.

I searched but they don't always list "small" improvements like this in the specs so I think I'd ask here, does the G7 know to raise ISO when using external flash?

I'd also like to hear G7 owners share more about the changes that make practical improvements, those handy things that don't appear important enough for Panasonic to write.

    Thanks!

Good question, I have been wondering this myself since I picked up a g7 last week. I will get one soon regardless though

    H/W MF/AF switch
being able to use ISO 6400 when necessary
quicker AF with Panasonic 100-300 zoom.

since G6 it knows to use ISO up to 12800 when needed, but still no 25600 unlike Olys

The point is that I feel that ISO 6400 produces adequate IQ on the G7 and I did not feel that it was a viable option on the G6.

    true.
what bothered me when I had a G5 was that auto ISO has an upper limit of 3200, but I agree with you, the G7 sensor should be about one stop better
