Has anyone used the Olympus MAL-1 Macro Arm Light & can you describe how well it works for you with the macro lenses? Obviously it is for close work only as a flash (with diffuser) would be better for something a little further away.

I'm wanting to use it on my E-M5 with the 60mm macro lens & have had success using the FL36R flash with an after market diffuser attached, but would like a static light(s) for those really close, creative situations.

I bought it but haven't used it yet.

Works fairly well. Certainly better than nothing. It's cheap, light and easy to use. It's not super strong. I am not a serious macro shooter, so it works for me. If I was doing anything serious, though, I'd want a better set-up.

not a substitute for a good off-camera set up or ring light

but I got mine for $32 with Ritz Camera closed and I've used it with my 12-50 in macro mode. Light...portable...and very adjustable. Each light has a low and high setting, so there's some adjustability. Understand "high setting" is not a lot of light, but for simple macro, it works pretty well.
