Anyone snapping the solstice lunar eclipse ?

It's due around sunrise (21st Dec) in the UK, but the forecast locally is fog. Also very cold. For those with clear skies there should be some good photo ops though.

But is it all that interesting to photograph?
I've seen a lunar eclipse, just by eye, in a clear sky. And although it is interesting it really isn't all that interesting. The moon just got darker with a dark red hue.
From an image point of view you could just change the colour in Photoshop of the normal moon and get just about the same thing I would think.

I'm such an idiot, I knew about it and thought about it...and went to bed and promptly forgot all about it! I could have used my daughter's Olympus E620, too. Maybe she remembered to try it?

It was totally clouded over here, like it has been for weeks and weeks and weeks.

I was experimenting with the "negative space" to give more a feeling of the expansive sky while keeping some detail. Also if I zoomed in any more it would be blurry. :smile: I tried to crop it so it was more interesting with a couple stars here and there and not a "mugshot" of the moon.

It seemed to work I guess?

I wonder how the 100-300 would compare to my 45-200 in this case? The 45-200 seemed to put forth a good effort.
