Anyone else use shimmering/moire as focus peaking substitute on the GH3?

Hi,

Just curious - but I have used the GH3 for a bit now, and found that what I think is a flaw in the lcd screen can be used to my advantage when focusing manually (or verifying focus in AF). If I focus at something with good detail, I will usually find a point where there is a bit of shimmering going on (hard to explain exactly). It's fairly faint, but I can actually usually see it without zooming (and my vision isn't THAT great..). Other times I get a more pronounced moire effect on patterns, which is an even better giveaway( and the resulting photo is fine!).

Was I luck and got a bad sample of the GH3, or is this a fairly common trick?

Granted, I would have much preferred ACTUAL focus peaking, but alas...

Thanks!

Used to be a fairly well known trick on some of the earlier m43 models with lower resolution lcd. Haven't heard of the technique for a while, certainly not with the GH3.
