At first I thought they looked ugly, but now they're starting to grow on me. I wouldn't put one a DSLR, but on a mirrorless camera they seem to work for me! Anybody else like them?:wink:

    Here's my new hood on the G3 & 20mm 1.7:

Here is the G3 & 20 pancake with hood next to my Nikon D3/85 G and D700/50 Ai'd:

Shading the sensor rather than shading the image circle seems to require a lot more precision. While that hood is more handsome than it's ugly round sister ... is it as effective?

It's a big hood that offers much better stray light protection then other types of 46mm hoods for the 20mm. The lens is deeply recessed, but I haven't noticed any vignetting of any sorts. Plus with pancakes I always manage to get a finger or lens strap in the way of quick shooting, so this feels like a more adequate way to keep objects from getting in front of the lens.

Jonathan, on a tangent (look wicked by the way), could you possibly tell me the dimensions of the GF2 + 20mm?

Looking for a bag that has internal dimensions of 8x11x6 cm. Might have to make room for one of these hoods though :D

What makes it specifically a video lens hood?

It's approximately 2.5in. thick by 4in. long with the the 20 pancake on there.

    Because it's rectangular!
