During my APS-C days, I kept a Nikkor 55-200 (non-VR) in my bag. It was cheap, compact/light & sharp across the range. Ofcourse, I could only use it in good light.

There are a lot of tele zooms for the m43 platform, but are any compact/light yet sharp (especially at the tele end)?

I use the P100-300. awesome lens within the 100-250mm and "alright" between the 250-300 depending on the light conditions

I found the P45-200 and the P100-300 to be acceptably* sharp across the entire range.

check the image threads for the four zooms: oly 75-300, pan 100-300, pan 45-150, 45-175 and 45-200. with good light you can get good images.

I have an oly 40-150 though not quite excited about it at 150.. The 100-300 / 75-300 are too big for something i occasionally use but always carry..

will check the other reviews, thanks

The 45-175 is tack sharp end-to-end. In terms of optical performance, size and price it can't be beat!

Have you encountered any double image issues with the 45-175?

I used mine on an OM-D which uses the IBIS and turns off OIS. Your mileage may vary on Panasonic bodies. On Olympus bodies, it's great! I only sold mine to make room for the 75 1.8!

Oh! I didn't realize that double image thing was OIS specific. Might be worth testing the 45-175 & 45-150 .. they fit the criteria

I'd still pick the 45-175 X. It has a fixed barrel length and will not retract. Not to mention the 45-175 has been around for awhile now and can actually be found cheaper than the 45-150 right now.

Everything I've read suggests it's not OIS specific, as people still get it with OIS switched off, on tripods etc. If you get the 45-175mm make sure you have the option to return it, and test it at various shutter speeds. That way you'll know for sure, and not have to rely on second hand information from the internet :)
