Was interesting. I'm surprised the Oly fared so well at such a lower price point. Without the side-by-side comparison I doubt I could tell any difference. I'm not the most trained eye obviously. Nice showing for the inexpensive small fry.

It is hard for me to compare the 100% crops. But in the examples at the end, I strongly prefer the VL and PL versus the Oly. Just more pop to the VL + PL images.

Pretty much what I discovered when I was looking at the lenses during my search, which is that - for me - I saved a ton of money getting the Oly 45/1.8, as the margins are so small between them all to be negligible.

I thought the same thing but I wonder: is the light, the lens or the post processing? :)

Andrew depends on how you shoot. I, for one, don't show images SOOC. JPG or RAW, they all fall under my keyboard and mouse manipulations through Lightroom before unveiled to the viewing public.

Well imagine how well the 45 would compare if he had used the silver one.

Extra stop will do that! I really love the PL, but even if I start to justify the cost, the size and weight turn me off. And I'm not ready to invest so much in a non-AF lens for the VL. It would probably be fine, but I like my AF.

So, the cheap, but fantastic 45mm f1.8 and 42.5mm f1.7 will have to do!

With so many good options, it is hard to complain, but it is shame we don't have something in the middle (with AF). Instead of two options at 400 and one uber option at 1600, something in the middle at 800 would have been nice. 55mm f1.4?

Yeah, it does seem like all those samples may have been wide open. I agree, shallow DOF will provide 3D pop. And there is a significant difference between the Oly 1.8 versus 1.2 and 0.95 on the others. Also, the Oly examples just don't look like great examples.

I really like the Oly 45mm and would not sell it. It was one of the reason I got into Micro 4/3 and it is an awesome little lens that can't be beat for quality/size/price

That said I'm lusting for the Voigtländer and will probably buy it if I find a good priced second hand.
I have the 17.5 Voigtländer and love it.
