Taking cameras to concerts is always a crapshoot (ooh, a pun!). Some venues/performers don't care while others are vehemently opposed to it. Last night, I went to see Sam Beam (of Iron & Wine) and Jesca Hoop. I tried to be proactive about what I was allowed to use and called the box office ahead of time to see what the photo policy was. They weren't very helpful, "we won't know until later." It was 11am. OK. Call back at 5pm, two hours before the show... box office closed at 3pm. The wife had been to the venue before and said they didn't even check bags, so, I took the chance. I have gear ranging from a small Panasonic LX7 to a FF A7II. I wanted a little more than 1/1.7" sensor could give me and I didn't want to bing the big A7II so, I packed my E-M10 with the Olympus 25/1.8 and two OM lenses: The G.Zuiko 50mm f/1.4 and, the latest addition to my bag, the 100mm f/2.8.

I ended up using the 100mm most of the time and from where I was sitting, it proved to be a good choice. Most legacy lenses tend to be soft and/or have less contrast wide open. The 100/2.8 follows this, but not nearly as much as the other Zuikos in my collection. It was fairly easy to use on the E-M10 and performed admirably. The files are no doubt noisy when viewed at 100%, but you could easily print them at 8x10 and still have a pleasing image. Shot it mostly wide open. Maybe a few at f4.

One thing I find useful at concerts and low light situations where a majority of the frame is filled with darkness is to underexpose. Especially when shooting in multi/center weighted metering. Most of the shots were underexposed by as much as two stops but generally between -1 and -2 ev.

Anyway, I'm starting to ramble. Here's a few images from the gig. Click through to see details...
