Lets post our experiences and photos shot with adapted 300mm f4 lenses to demonstrate the quality of other 600mm equivalent focal length lenses.

Took this with the EM1 and the Sigma 300mm f4 APO Tele Macro in Nikon Mount

While I sold it awhile ago the Canon FD 300mm f4L is a great lens. Showcase - Canon 300mm f/4 L FD

I was really hoping the Oly 300 f/4 was going to be in the $12-1500 range, instead it looks like Olympus went all out to squeeze the extra few percentage points out of it. Wished the would have saved that for a 2.8 Pro version and keep the f4 more prosumer.

Vivitar makes several long lens MF primes that are fairly sharp especially stopped down.

I searched for an affordable Canon 300mm f/4 L FD for a couple of years and gave up when the prices kept rising. I read that the Sigma was very close in sharpness and gambled that with our small sensors the difference would be negligable and it turns out it is...

There is one on FM right now for $350 which is a decent price. FS: Canon FDn 400 F4.5 , FD 300 F4L and 1.4X A converter. I really liked the MF feel on the Canon, how is the Sigma based on it being a AF lens with MF capability (I have found that usually means a short throw and touchy focus).

Let's not forget the Oly 50-200 SWD. With 1.4 TC it still sharp, still auto focuses well and is what...f4.9? There is no doubt more in the 40-150 pro and 300mm pro, but this lens is good enough that it makes me less willing to bare the expense. It will still AF with the 2x TC and priced 400mm at f7 as a bonus.
