I'm contemplating the 45mm 1.8, and I've read other posts that say the AF is "fast"... But how does it compare to the new kit lens? Thanks in advance for your insight.

If there is any difference at all, it's certainly not noticeable. Both are plenty fast enough for me.

The 45 "sometimes" focus faster in low light where the new kit lens might hunt for a second but most of the time there is no obvious difference in focus speed.

Focusing speed is about the same but image quality is better from the 45mm.

Image quality and lens speed, both.

In good light, I can't tell the difference. In bad light, the 45 has two extra stops to use for focus and the results are as you'd expect.

Thanks, that's what I expected. Now I just need to find it in stock for the right price.

That's tempting. I must admit, even with all the good feedback, I am hesitant to order direct from HK.

I just ordered from the same seller this week and got the lens for $345. It was delivered, for free, two days later. I'm very satisfied.
