A simple variable ND filter (from polarisers)

    I saw this the other day:

    Simple Variable Neutral Density Filter

    I made one from a CPL and an old HOYA linear PL. Hopefully I will get a chance to use it (on a lens that doesn't rotate on focus, now that would drive me mad).

    That's a pretty old trick, but the problem lies mainly in the fact that you're introducing more lens elements (of indeterminant quality), wth greater seoparation, in front of a good lens. It's still much better to still use single element NDs.
