I really enjoy David Thorpe's videos but for me these seem like a false economy - there are plenty of cheap-ish decent lenses already , and if manual focus and variable quality is acceptable, go take a chance on a cheap legacy lens.

Just my thoughts, and I guess it depends on availability of cheaper glass wherever you are located.
