Wickford is generally said to have been settled around 1637, when religious dissident and Rhode Island state founder Roger Williams bought a parcel of land from the sachem Canonicus and established a trading post there. Prior to European contact, the lands in and around Wickford had long served as dwelling, fishing, and hunting grounds to the Narragansett people, who were New England's most powerful and prominent tribe at the time when Williams found his way to their shores.

Thanks for these pics, Alan. I did a post doc at URI and lived in Narragansett for 2 years. Always enjoyed a stroll through Wickford, and the 'Wickford Gourmet' was a regular stop for shopping as was the place around the corner (Ryan's?) for its meats.

What a very pleasant town ... no wonder the Native Americans called it home. I like the ducks and bagel shots most.

Thanks for the kind words folks. I'm continuing on with my intention to make images of what's around me everyday...

Wickford is very bucolic little setting, always enjoyable for a stroll.. if you find yourself in Southern RI, a nice place to take in.

    Cheers, Alan
