Today I went to the Royal Shrovetide Football Match in Ashbourne, England. It's basically a free for all with goals that are 3 miles apart. They play from 2pm to 10pm on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. The shops are all boarded up and it's complete mayhem! Here is the wikipedia page:

I don't really like most of the photos, but it's an interesting event, so I thought I'd share them.

"Turning up" the ball to begin the game:

I like looking at all the faces in this one:

    A glimpse of the ball:

    In the pond:

It gets rough and messy, so you shouldn't wear your best clothes:

Suddenly I was right by the ball and trapped in a corner!

There's some great pictures that other people have taken of people running through rivers and stuff if you google it.

    Thanks, Eltictac!

Those are some great soccer pictures. When are you going to post the football photos?

Ha ha! It's not much like "soccer" either! More like rugby. Although if rugby/football/soccer was more like this I'd be much more interested in it!
