Today was the first opportunity I had to try out my latest lenses. I picked up the Olympus 17mm f1.8 as I usually have some kind of 35mm equivalent in my bag. However, only a couple of days later, I picked up a GM5 + 15mm PL f1.7 package. My first thoughts were that 15mm would be too wide for me, so I'll sell it and keep the GM5 as a spare body. I wanted to try the lens out first though and I was surprised.
I decided not to take the same shots one after the other with the same lens, but rather to go out and shoot one lens for an hour or so, and then the other for the next hour or so. This doesn't give a great comparison, but It would allow me to see which lens I preferred overall, rather than pixel peep; I just wanted to mark off the images I liked the most after editing.
The 15mm has actually won me over a bit. I've had 28mm equivalents in the past but always found them too wide. Somehow, the 15mm was not too wide today, but rather it allowed me to capture some shots I couldn't have done with the 17mm. I also prefer the rendition of the 15mm; it seems sharper but again, I haven't been zooming in 100% etc; I've just been editing my images, looking at them and starring the ones I like the most.
Here's a few I took in some dismal lighting around my local city (Manchester, England). I purposely went to the "grittier" part of the city to test out the 15 and 17mm lenses. This area is an art district which was recently featured in the New York Times. It's also been used in the Captain America movie amongst others due to its apparently similar look to NYC. I say apparently as I'm unfortunately yet to get to NYC...

Remember, I didn't use a tripod or any direct method, but this is the 17mm wide open:
...and a similar scene with the 15mm wide open
...and now more of the 15mm
