I was referring to digital zoom in the sense of precisely setting the intended framing. So basically, "live cropping" is what I'm looking for.
I agree that digital zoom in the sense of interpolating is pretty useless.
I do, however, think that "live cropping" has its benefits:
- the automatic exposure could be set specifically for the cropped portion;
- people not used to primes (and not used to "zooming with your feet") would have an easier time setting the intended framing;
- might actually be more fun than cropping afterwards.
