The OMD's evf is fine for composition, but I prefer the VF2 for manual focusing. It makes a double sized hump, but it gets my nose off the lcd.

Love the VF-2 on my OM-D — it looks just soooooo retro cool. Also you can do the looking down trick with the camera pointing sideways to get a candid, as I used to do with SLRs with the pentaprism removed [Miranda Sensorex, circa '68]. It also makes it easier to do some sky shots where the glare is less intrusive for the VF is you are looking down and the lens is at 90º to your eye angle. Is that a Nikon 105? Lovely lens.

It's the Nikon 105/2.5ais, a terrific portrait lens.

Makes me assume the VF2 is superior to the OMD's EVF. Is that so?

Same resolution, same chip... and the OMD's evf has a higher refresh rate. But I can focus accurately with the VF2, and not so accurately with the OMD's evf. It may have something to do with the opening size, or it may be the beginnings of insanity.

Looks very interesting and something I'd not thought about. Could be really useful for MF on macro shots in bright light.

It's that glass in front of the EVF on the OMD. In my experience anyway. I use polarized sunglasses a lot, and there are a lot of variations and distortions caused by the glass that aren't present in the VF2.

First world problems eh? My protective sunglasses interfere with my focus checks.

I much prefer the VF-2 to the OM-D's built in finder. The flip up is the real joy.

I like the look and the versatility with the flip up - cool idea!

i actually noticed the same with VF-2. i tried the VF-2 on my friends Ep-3 and i thought it was much brighter. and as you have said, they are actually the same as the EVF of the EM-5 but i still feel that the Vf-2 is better.

I can see where that would be handy in so many situations. Worth picking up, I think.

But, you can bump the brightness of the EVF.

I think that's the first time I have seen someone do that. Insanity!

I prefer to think of it as creativity.

Seriously, I got the idea from the DPR review, and since I was having trouble manually focusing legacy lenses with the OMD's evf, decided to give it a try... and it worked. :dance3:

Which EVF are you referring to carpandean - the E-M5's?

I like the look and am also curious how it looks on the E-PL5, but at the same time I don't know if the VF-2 is an improvement over the LCD screen on either camera. I like the LCD screen because it is tiltable (on both cameras, and thereby IMO eliminating the need for the tiltable EVF).

Does anyone have an E-PL5 with the VF-2 - will the VF-2 even work on the E-PL5?

Yes. Don't know how it compares once you've turned it up, though.
