Last week I acquired the PanaLeica 25mm f/1.4 from another forum member. After a couple of days of fooling around with it, I wasn't quite sure that I really had a handle on the lens' capabilities, so I decided to challenge myself and bring only that one lens on an extended day outing. Normally for such a trip I would bring at least two lenses, one of which would be the 14-140mm, because I like to be prepared. So restricting myself to a single normal prime was a different experience for me.

First we went to a kid's birthday party. The morning was overcast so it was excellent to show off the wider side of the lens.

Then we went to Legoland California, where they were having Star Wars Days. The sun came out while we were there.

I took a bunch of pictures of the newly expanded Star Wars Miniland. Do you recognize these scenes?

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/debit72/6894939652/" title="Endor - Assault on the Shield Generator by debit72, on Flickr"> 6894939652_effdfdc847_z. "640" height="480" alt="Endor - Assault on the Shield Generator"></a>

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/debit72/6894967512/" title="Battle on Kashyyyk by debit72, on Flickr"> 6894967512_54e81fde0a_z. "640" height="427" alt="Battle on Kashyyyk"></a>

Some of the scenes were in both bright sun and shade, so I used exposure bracketing and did a couple of HDR shots.

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/debit72/6894979494/" title="Mos Eisley Cantina by debit72, on Flickr"> 6894979494_035cbf10eb_z. "640" height="360" alt="Mos Eisley Cantina"></a>

    More fun in the park.

And on the way back to the freeway, I got this HDR shot of the Carlsbad Flower Fields.

That's all! So, do you think I put the lens through its paces?

Great shots! I love the PL25, and wouldn't bring my camera anywhere without it...

If you didn't mention it, I wouldn't be able to tell that some of your shots were HDR... well done!

  6. Very nice shots from a very nice lens. I will confess a slight aversion to out-of-focus foreground details, but that's just me. The protraits look great; sharp where they need to be, soft where they don't. I haven't used my PL25 a great deal yet, but just enough to know that it is a seriously good lens.

How lucky are you, visiting some kind of heaven on earth where dudes wear stormtrooper outfits and recreate Star Wars scenes out of Lego just because they can.

Yes, but I refuse to recognise anything that didn't come out of Episodes IV, V and VI.

Chewie is in one of the shots; he is atop the AT-ST walker in front of the bunker on Endor.

he is very well camouflaged then...

  10. Hey, which one did you think was Bespin? Aside from France I thought I was seeing all Endor plus the Mos Eisley Cantina.

    Foiled by the bokeh wookiee!

Entertaining series Debi. I love the tone and texture of the moss on the photo that appears to be starring a war between lego figures. Slight HDR maybe?

Forgive my ignorance, but what are those funny figures called? I've seen them in the toy store before.

The Lego minifigures? Or the characters from Star Wars? In the battle scene (yes, that was HDR) there are Gungans on the left and battle droids on the right.

Had to gut-check my sw nerds real quick.

(Honestly: I saw a floating platform then realize shuttle Tyderium was never on Bespin)

Ok, move along now...nothing to see here.

Will you consider adopting a child well over thirty?
    My favorite color is red.

One of the best things so far about being a parent is sharing the stories I loved as a child with my son. I can't wait until he can read.
