Hello everyone,

here are a few shots from today's efforts to produce a shot for my PAD Project.

I'm enjoying my photography more than ever before... with the Oly Pen and the PAD to keep me motivated!

I really like this idea, Brian. There are days when it is surely difficult to choose one image to represent the PAD. As shown here, very good images must be cast aside. This may be a good exercise for our fellow PADers to show the thought process behind choosing an image.

Steve, I would love to see sets of images from all of our PAD group members... I'll move this thread to the Open forum and please do add your sets as you see fit.

Cheers

Hi Christilou,

my workflow is to shoot in raw, use Olympus Studio to select my favourite half dozen or so images from a session. My default jpeg parameters in the camera are
Colour : Natural
Contrast : -2
Sharpening : -2
Saturation : -2
Gradation : -2
Noise Filter : OFF
Colour Space : AdobeRGB

These parameters are read with the raw file by Olympus Studio and applied for the conversion... unless I decide to change anything, eg Noise Filtering if shooting high ISO. I'm most likely if anything to brighten exposure in Studio in order to bring the histogram more to the centre.

I then export to tiff with exif included, for finishing in Lightzone.

I have a special style which I've developed in Lightzone to add soft light to the shadows, which has the effect of softly increasing contrast by making the shadows richer and darker in colour. I developed this by looking at how medium format images look compared to small sensor digicams.

Finally, I export to jpeg 1024x768 in sRGB colour space for sharing via the web... Lightzone tends to sharpen images in the process of downscaling, so no sharpening applied.

Cheers

Thanks cosinaphile, I'm hoping we'll see more shots from the PAD brigade here... I know that Bill really struggles to post just one shot to his PAD

Here are some shots which didn't make my PAD for today.

This is a great idea Brian, I love those days when you get a number of great and varied images, makes for a hard decision. Thanks for posting the background on your pre-lightzone processing, very interesting.

I'll join in shortly!

This is ridiculous! I can't seem to go anywhere without a camera these days

From this evening, waiting for my son to finish his game of warhammer at Meadowhall shopping centre.

This is an idea I've been trying to capture for the last 4 days... It was going to be my opening PAD entry, but I couldn't seem to 'nail it'. Here's my best attempt, from today....

Chris

IMHO - "bin" the third one - and the 4th - but that's just my taste

Chris, love the colour in your first shot... beautiful. I think the B&W rendition of your 2nd shot in your PAD was a good call.

Disagree with Bill regarding your 3rd shot, which I like...

Thanks for helping to get the ball rolling here, these are great.

Cheers

Thank you both for you honest feed back. I think it's the way forward :D

The 3rd pic is probably more personal, as it's a road I drive down every morning, and for a few weeks a year, the sun is RIGHT in your eyes. I was expecting it, so grabbed the camera to see what would happen.

The 4th really is a bit of a disaster. I was trying to capture that 'drawer' that most people have in there homes, (well most people I know anyway) The one that has a tangle of battery charges. I think I'll give up on that one for a few days, and rethink my approach :D

Thanks again!

Here's todays PAD, pre-crop. Originally, I put the vanishing point bang in the middle, but I think putting the horizon on the lower third works better.

Thoughts?
