This couple was a blast to hang around. Very modest and humble, yet hilarious. I love being around couples like this.

The OMD performed admirably, but it was only possible with the help of off-cam lights. D600 or D800 to supplement the OMD - what do you guys think?

    Enjoy! All feedback welcome :)

great. But I don't know about "needing" (my words) off camera lights for the EM5. I think any system benefits from good lighting. But I don't think the EM5 is different to any other system in that regard.

I'd get the D600 unless you want all the D800 pixels for something else. Too many for weddings.

I love my OM-D, but its high ISO performance isn't nearly as good as my 5D Mark II's. I'd agree with the OP that I'd rather use OCL and keep the ISOs low if it was for something like this.

Nice work! I'm curious to know if you experienced any A/F tracking issues at all? I've found it to be a bit of problem when shooting moving subjects with the OMD.

Ive shot 200 weddings with a 5D2 and about 60 with the EM5. What the EM5 looses in noise it makes up for in DR and the fact that you really can shoot wide open with lenses like the 75mm 1.8. On both cameras I'm far more likely to add noise than remove it. Fast lenses solve all problems as far ss I'm concerned. I'm a prime shooter. I rarely need over ISO 800. And the IBIS on the Olympus completely levels the playing field, for me.

I still dont see how OCL serves any more/less use on a DSLR/m43 than any other camera. Quality of light is just that regardless of camera. A bit of noise or the difference in noise between a 5D2 and an EM5 doesn't really count for squat as far as the couples are concerned. It only matters to us and other photographers who love to banter about this stuff. If using an off camera flash improves a shot from an EM5 it'll improve a shot from a 5D2 or any other camera by the same amount.

If the shot is good enough, no one will notice the grain. If it aint, a lack of noise won't save it.

    As usual, YMMV.

Yeah, for a split second I though it was a mirror shot.

@ twalker294, Thanks! I've updated the initial post with the lenses and settings used for you

@ Neofx19, Thank you - The only camera I used was one OMD with think 2 tank belt/pouches to switch between the PL25, 751.8 and 12-35. I had my GX1 as a worst case scenario backup if anything went wrong (hence the need of a proper supplemental body)

@ Flash, Thanks - I agree the "need" is subjective and all systems benefit from good lighting. You obviously have a lot of experience under your belt so I trust that you know what works for you. As for me, I'm still learning about the limitations of m43 and the rooms for the"getting ready" shots were so dimly lit that I don't think I could have had the same image quality without OCL and cranking up the ISO looked bad in my opinion from the initial test shots. Also..have they resolved the mirror slapping oil specks on the sensor issue on the D600?

@ Dan Lopez, Thanks! I have a lot of issues with A/F tracking with the OMD, which is another primary reason why I would like to get another camera with much better AF technology. In some of the recessional and exit shots, I had to leave the camera on MF and track them manually or focus on a specific spot and wait for them to be in range as they passed by. Definitely not a good thing to lack confidence in your camera's tracking.

@ RobartBenson, You're too kind! The couple really did have a strong connection with their little one. This one is cropped quite a bit since I felt the focus really needed to be on the baby.

@ Ulfric M Douglas, Thanks! I was shooting the dress and was a little annoyed that they started strapping up in front of me but I just went with it :)
I really like these unexpected moments when something quirky happens and you have little control and shoot on.

That 1st one is not just a great wedding pic. It's a really well made photo that's interesting out of context.
